Coromandel

Coromandel is a toponym used for several places in Asia and Oceania. The most common references are to the Coromandel Coast of the Indian subcontinent, the Coromandel Peninsula in southern India, and Coromandel locations in New Zealand.

Coromandel Coast: The Coromandel Coast is the eastern coastline along the Bay of Bengal, stretching roughly from the Krishna delta in present-day Andhra Pradesh to the Mahanadi delta in Odisha, and including coastal Tamil Nadu. It has a long history of maritime trade and colonial contact, with ports such as Chennai (Madras) and Visakhapatnam playing prominent roles. Coromandel Peninsula: The Coromandel Peninsula is the triangular landform that forms the southeastern part of the Indian subcontinent. New Zealand: In New Zealand, the Coromandel name applies to the Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island and to Coromandel Town, a settlement inland from the coast.
