ContainerIsolation

ContainerIsolation refers to the practice of isolating containers from each other and from the host system to ensure security and stability. This isolation is typically achieved through several mechanisms, including namespaces, control groups (cgroups), and filesystem isolation. Namespaces provide a way to partition kernel resources such as process IDs, network interfaces, and mount points, ensuring that processes within one container cannot interfere with those in another. Control groups, on the other hand, limit and isolate the resource usage of containers, such as CPU, memory, and I/O, preventing one container from exhausting the resources of the host system or other containers. Filesystem isolation involves using techniques like chroot jails or overlay filesystems to restrict the container's access to the host filesystem, further enhancing security. These isolation mechanisms collectively enable containers to run in a secure, predictable, and efficient manner, making them a fundamental component of modern cloud-native and microservices architectures.
