In a compound-driven workflow, researchers design, prioritize, and synthesize libraries based on desirable physicochemical properties, synthetic accessibility, and predicted ADME/Tox profiles. The emphasis is on exploring chemical space that is more likely to yield resources with favorable developability, rather than chasing a single target from the outset.

It can reduce late-stage attrition and enable parallel exploration of chemical space. Limitations include potential bias toward known chemotypes, the risk of overlooking biology that emerges only when exploring broader targets, and a reliance on robust predictive models which may be imperfect.
