Completus

Completus is a Latin term that functions as an adjective and as the masculine form of the perfect passive participle of the verb complere, meaning to fill or to complete. The corresponding forms are completa (feminine) and completum (neuter). In Latin, completus can describe something that has been finished, filled, or brought to a conclusion.

In classical and medieval Latin, completus appears as an attributive or predicative descriptor. It may modify a noun to indicate that a process, object, or work is complete, such as a completed project, a full vessel, or a finished calculation. The word often occurs in scholarly, legal, and religious texts where precision of completion or fullness is conveyed.

In modern usage, completus is rarely used as a standalone term in everyday English. It persists primarily in linguistic study and in discussions of Latin morphology, where it serves as an example of participial and adjectival forms. Because Latin adjectives must agree in gender with their nouns, completus, completa, and completum serve as gendered variations in agreement with masculine, feminine, or neuter nouns.

In taxonomy and scientific naming, Latin adjectives are common as species epithets. Completus may appear as a possible epithet meaning “complete” or “full,” though such usage would be determined by the gender of the genus name and is not a standardized term in itself.
