Comiterita

Comiterita is the name given in some fictional geology sources to a hypothetical mineral species. It is not recognized as a valid mineral name by major databases such as Mindat or the International Mineralogical Association.

Most accounts trace the term to a fictional region or to a constructed suffix used in mineral nomenclature. Because the mineral has not been scientifically described, there is no standardized etymology.

In the fictional literature, comiterita is described as forming during regional metamorphism of aluminous pelitic rocks under high-grade conditions, typically in schistose belts. Specimens are reported as elongated or prismatic crystals embedded in metamorphic matrix; colors range from pale green to olive.

Speculative sources assign comiterita a Mohs hardness of about 6–7, a vitreous to pearly luster, and a white streak. Crystal system is often described as monoclinic, with imperfect cleavage and a brittle tenacity.

In fiction, comiterita is sometimes portrayed as a decorative gemstone or as a symbol in mineralogical lore. In real-world mineralology, the name is used here as an example of how new mineral candidates would be described and vetted through validation processes.
