Cnitroso

Cnitroso refers to a functional group in organic chemistry characterized by a nitrogen atom bonded to an oxygen atom via a double bond and also bonded to an alkyl or aryl group. The general formula for a nitroso compound is R-N=O, where R represents the organic substituent. These compounds are often colored, with many exhibiting blue or green hues due to the presence of the nitroso group.

Nitroso compounds can be synthesized through various methods, including the oxidation of hydroxylamines or the reaction of primary amines with nitrous acid under specific conditions. They are known to exist in equilibrium with their tautomeric form, oximes (R-C=N-OH), particularly when the R group is attached to a carbon atom that also has a hydrogen atom.
