Cloudshed

Cloudshed is a term used in meteorology to describe a state of prolonged cloud cover over a geographic region, resulting in reduced surface solar irradiance and daylight. The term is formed from cloud + shed, alluding to clouds casting shade on the surface.

Measurement and usage: Researchers quantify cloudshed via measurements of solar radiation as well as cloud properties such as cloud fraction, optical depth, and cloud-top temperature. In climate models, cloudshed periods are represented by increased cloud cover and lower shortwave irradiance at the surface.
