Citar
Citar is a Spanish verb of the first conjugation with several related senses. The primary meaning is to quote or to cite a source, i.e., to refer to someone else’s words or ideas and to provide enough information for locating the source. It also means to mention as authority or to reference rules, data, or other authorities. A second common use is to summon someone to appear before an authority, such as a judge, or to schedule an appointment; the reflexive form citarse is used to indicate arranging a meeting, as in citarse con alguien.
The noun cita covers both a quotation and an appointment. Citas bibliográficas refer to bibliographic citations
Etymology traces to Latin citāre "to summon, to call," and the verb follows regular -ar conjugation patterns.
