Cicloalifático

Cicloalifático refers to a class of organic chemical compounds that contain one or more alicyclic rings within their molecular structure. Alicyclic compounds are saturated or unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbons that do not contain aromaticity. Therefore, cicloalifático compounds combine features of both cycloalkanes, cycloalkenes, or cycloalkynes with an aliphatic chain or other functional groups.

These compounds are characterized by the presence of at least one carbocyclic ring system where the atoms within the ring are arranged in a closed loop. The term "alifático" indicates that the compound possesses open-chain hydrocarbon characteristics in addition to the ring structure. This means they can have single, double, or triple bonds within the ring, or attached to the ring atoms, and can also feature side chains or other non-ring atoms.

Examples of cicloalifático compounds include cyclohexane, cyclohexene, and cyclopentane. More complex examples might involve a cycloalkane ring attached to a long alkane chain, or a cycloalkene ring with various substituents. Their chemical properties are a blend of those exhibited by cyclic and open-chain hydrocarbons. They can undergo reactions typical of alkanes, alkenes, or alkynes depending on the saturation of the ring and the presence of double or triple bonds.

Cicloalifático compounds are found in various natural products and are also synthesized for industrial applications. They serve as intermediates in the production of plastics, solvents, and pharmaceuticals. Their specific properties, such as boiling point, melting point, and reactivity, are influenced by the size and structure of the alicyclic ring, as well as the nature and extent of the aliphatic portions of the molecule.
