Chlorerede

Chlorerede is a term used in speculative chemistry and fictional writing to denote a hypothetical chlorine-containing derivative of an invented organic skeleton called erede. The name combines the chemical prefix chlor- with a synthetic stem erede, signaling a chlorine substitution on a non-specific parent.

In concept, chlorerede is not a defined compound and has no standard formula, structure, or properties in established chemical literature. The term is employed in thought experiments to illustrate ideas about halogenation, reactivity, and environmental behavior of organochlorine species. Depending on the imagined skeleton, chlorerede might be described as a volatile liquid or a crystalline solid with varying degrees of polarity, depending on substituents.
