Charrúa

Charrúa is a term that can refer to several things, most notably an indigenous people of South America and a type of aircraft.

The Charrúa people were an indigenous group who inhabited the territory of present-day Uruguay and parts of Argentina and Brazil. They were known for their warrior culture and resistance to European colonization. The Charrúa were skilled horsemen and hunters. Their resistance was a significant factor in the early history of Uruguay. The name "Charrúa" is often associated with Uruguayan national identity, though the Charrúa people were largely assimilated or displaced over centuries.

The Charrúa is also the name of a Uruguayan-designed light aircraft. Developed by Héctor "Tito" Cabrera, the Charrúa was a two-seat, high-wing monoplane intended for general aviation and training purposes. Several prototypes were built and flown, and it represented an effort to establish a domestic aircraft manufacturing industry in Uruguay. While not produced in large numbers, the Charrúa aircraft is a notable part of Uruguayan aviation history.
