Chaperonijärjestelmien, or chaperone systems, refers to a group of proteins that assist in the proper folding, assembly, and transport of other proteins within a cell. These chaperone proteins are essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing the accumulation of misfolded or aggregated proteins, which can lead to cellular dysfunction and disease.

Chaperones can function in various ways. Some, known as heat shock proteins (HSPs), are produced in response to cellular stress, such as heat or oxidative damage, and help to refold damaged proteins or prevent aggregation.
