Ceramidit

Ceramidit is a term that does not correspond to a recognized chemical compound, mineral, or biotechnological substance in established reference works as of 2024. In some speculative or informal contexts, ceramidit has been used to describe a hypothetical organic–inorganic hybrid that would include ceramide-like lipid molecules linked to an inorganic framework. No peer‑reviewed study has reported its synthesis, structure, or properties, and it is not catalogued in major chemical or mineral databases.

Because ceramide is a family of lipid molecules involved in cell membrane biology, the hypothetical ceramidit would imply an unusual hybrid. If such a material existed, it would raise questions about stability, hydrophobicity, and compatibility between organic lipids and inorganic lattices, but these remain speculative.

Etymology and usage: The name combines ceramide with the -it ending common to some mineral names. The term is sometimes encountered in discussions about organo-mineral composites or in speculative fiction; it should not be taken as established science.
