Cenwulf
Cenwulf, also known as Cenwulf of Mercia, was a king of Mercia, a kingdom in Anglo-Saxon England, from 737 to 757. He was the son of King Æthelbald and succeeded his brother, King Æthelred, upon Æthelred's death. Cenwulf's reign was marked by a series of conflicts with the neighboring kingdoms of Northumbria and Wessex. He is particularly known for his defeat and death at the Battle of the Trent in 757, where he was killed by King Æthelberht of Mercia, who had rebelled against him. Cenwulf's reign was also notable for his efforts to strengthen Mercia's defenses and expand its territory. He is remembered as a significant figure in the history of Mercia and the Anglo-Saxon period.
