Centrifugalkastning

Centrifugalkastning, also known as centrifugal casting, is a metal casting process where molten metal is poured into a spinning mold. The centrifugal force generated by the rotation forces the molten metal outward, pressing it against the mold walls. This process is particularly well-suited for producing cylindrical or tubular shapes, such as pipes, engine sleeves, and rings.

The mold is typically made of metal and is rotated at high speeds, ranging from a few hundred to several thousand revolutions per minute, depending on the size of the casting and the material being cast. As the molten metal fills the mold, impurities and lighter slag tend to collect towards the inner diameter of the casting due to the centrifugal force. After the metal solidifies, the casting is removed from the mold, and any excess material or defects on the inner surface are machined away.

Centrifugal casting offers several advantages. The high pressure created by centrifugal force results in a dense, homogeneous casting with fine grain structure, reducing porosity and improving mechanical properties. It also allows for the production of thin-walled castings with excellent dimensional accuracy and surface finish. The process can be used for a wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including cast iron, steel, aluminum, and bronze. The orientation of the mold can be horizontal or vertical, depending on the desired shape and size of the product.
