Celsanimaatiot

Celsanimaatiot, also known as cel animation or traditional animation, is a technique used in the production of animated films and television series. The term "cel" refers to individual sheets of transparent celluloid or plastic that are drawn on and then photographed onto film. This method was widely used in the early days of animation and continues to be employed in some modern productions.

The process begins with a storyboard, which outlines the sequence of events in the animation. Each scene is then broken down into individual drawings, known as cels, which are created on transparent sheets. These cels are then stacked in the correct order and photographed onto film, one frame at a time. This process is known as "exposure" or "shooting on cels."

Celsanimaatiot allows for a high degree of detail and complexity in the animation, as each cel can be individually painted and shaded. This technique also allows for a wide range of visual effects, such as shadows, reflections, and lighting, which can be achieved by manipulating the cels during the exposure process.

Despite the advent of digital animation techniques, celsanimaatiot remains a popular choice for certain types of animation, particularly those that require a traditional hand-drawn aesthetic. It is also used in the restoration and preservation of classic animated films, as the original cels can be scanned and used to create digital copies of the animation.

In recent years, some animators have experimented with combining traditional cel animation techniques with digital tools, creating a hybrid approach that blends the best of both worlds. This technique, known as "cel-shading" or "toon shading," has been used in video games and other digital media to create a stylized, hand-drawn look.
