Cellulosefasern

CelluloseFasern are fibers composed of cellulose, the natural polymer in plant cell walls. They include natural cellulose fibers obtained from plants such as cotton, flax, hemp, and jute, as well as regenerated fibers produced from purified cellulose, like viscose (rayon), modal, and lyocell.

Properties: They are hydrophilic and absorbent, breathable, and biodegradable. Drape and softness are typical; strength and dimensional stability vary by type. Regenerated fibers are often engineered for improved performance. They may require finishing or blending with other fibers to optimize specific use cases.

Production: Natural cellulose fibers come from plant cultivation and processing to separate fibers. Regenerated fibers are made by dissolving cellulose and regenerating it into filaments using processes such as viscose, cuprammonium, or lyocell (NMMO). Viscose historically employed carbon disulfide; lyocell uses a closed-loop solvent system.

Applications: Widely used in textiles (apparel, home textiles), nonwovens, and filters or composites. Blends with other fibers can enhance strength, elasticity, or durability, while dyes and finishes improve colorfastness.

Environmental notes: CelluloseFasern derive from renewable resources and are generally biodegradable, but environmental impact depends on cultivation and processing. Sustainable sourcing, recycling, and certifications aim to reduce footprint and ensure responsible production.
