Cayey

Cayey is a municipality located in the central-southern region of Puerto Rico. It is bordered by the municipalities of Cidra, Comerío, Orocovis, Coamo, Salinas, and Guayama. The municipality is known for its mountainous terrain and its agricultural history, particularly in the cultivation of tobacco and coffee. The name "Cayey" is believed to have indigenous origins, possibly derived from a Taíno word.

The city of Cayey, which serves as the municipal seat, is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains. The town was founded in 1773 by Juan de Montserrat. Historically, Cayey played a significant role in the development of Puerto Rico's agricultural economy.
