Comerío

Comerío is a municipality located in the central mountainous region of Puerto Rico. It is situated south of Naranjito and Barranquitas, east of Bayamón and Comerío, and west of Cidra. The municipality is bordered by the municipalities of Aguas Buenas, Cidra, Barranquitas, Naranjito, and Bayamón. The terrain of Comerío is characterized by rolling hills and valleys, typical of Puerto Rico's interior.

The town was founded on June 12, 1826, by Josefa de la Vega, who donated land for the establishment of a chapel and cemetery. Comerío officially became a municipality in 1866. The name "Comerío" is believed to have indigenous origins, possibly derived from a Taíno word. Historically, the region's economy has been tied to agriculture, particularly coffee and tobacco cultivation. The construction of the Dos Bocas Dam nearby in the early 20th century also had an impact on the local area.

The Comerio River flows through the municipality, contributing to its landscape and providing water resources. The population of Comerío, like many rural areas in Puerto Rico, has experienced demographic shifts over time. The municipality is known for its scenic beauty and is a gateway to exploring the mountainous interior of the island.
