Libraries frequently use MARC, Dublin Core, and BIBFRAME; museums may use various data models and schemas; digital repositories may employ METS and PREMIS. The web ecosystem often relies on Schema.org for discoverability, while RDF and SPARQL support semantic interoperability. Crosswalks and mappings enable translation between schemas to support data exchange.

Implementation involves choosing or combining standards, establishing data models, and deploying tooling for cataloging, import/export, validation, and authority control. Data quality, multilingual metadata, versioning, and license information are ongoing concerns, as is ensuring interoperability with external catalogs and open data initiatives.

Applications span libraries, archives, museums, government portals, and data repositories. A well-designed catalogingrammeverk increases search precision, enables data integration across institutions, and supports preservation through metadata stewardship.
