Canoga

Canoga is a neighborhood located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California. It is situated in the western part of the valley, bordered by other communities like Chatsworth, Northridge, and Reseda. The area is primarily residential, characterized by single-family homes, apartment complexes, and some commercial developments.

Historically, the San Fernando Valley, including the land that would become Canoga, was inhabited by the Tongva people. European settlement began in the late 18th century with the establishment of Mission San Fernando Rey de España. The area remained largely agricultural until the mid-20th century when rapid suburban expansion transformed the landscape.

Canoga Park, a larger adjacent community that historically encompassed what is now Canoga, has a significant role in the development of the region. The presence of the Southern Pacific Railroad played a crucial role in the early growth of the area, facilitating transportation and commerce.
