Camerons

Camerons is a term that can refer to the Scottish Clan Cameron, or to people with the surname Cameron. The plural form is used when speaking of the clan collectively or of multiple individuals who bear the name.

The surname Cameron is of Scottish origin. It is generally linked to the Gaelic form Caimbeul, from which the English name Cameron is derived. The exact meaning is disputed; theories commonly suggest a description such as “crooked nose” or “bent mouth,” though other explanations exist.

The Clan Cameron originated in the western Highlands, particularly Lochaber, and its chiefs are traditionally known as the Camerons of Lochiel. Historically, the clan played a role in regional politics and military affairs and participated in major events in Scottish history, including the Jacobite era.
