CSPanläggningar, or Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants, are facilities that generate electricity by converting sunlight into thermal energy, which is then used to produce steam and drive a turbine connected to an electrical generator. Unlike photovoltaic (PV) systems, CSP plants use mirrors or lenses to concentrate sunlight onto a receiver, which can be a liquid, gas, or solid material. This concentrated heat is then transferred to a working fluid, which produces steam to drive a turbine and generate electricity.

CSP technology can be classified into four main types based on the working fluid used: parabolic trough, power tower, linear Fresnel reflector, and dish Stirling. Parabolic trough systems use curved mirrors to focus sunlight onto a receiver tube filled with a heat-transfer fluid. Power tower systems use a field of flat, sun-tracking mirrors called heliostats to focus sunlight onto a central receiver atop a tower. Linear Fresnel reflector systems use long, thin, flat mirrors to focus sunlight onto a receiver tube. Dish Stirling systems use a parabolic dish to concentrate sunlight onto a Stirling engine, which converts the heat into mechanical power.

CSP plants offer several advantages, including the ability to store thermal energy for use when sunlight is not available, high efficiency, and the potential to integrate with other renewable energy sources. However, they also face challenges such as high initial costs, land requirements, and the need for direct sunlight, which can limit their suitability for certain locations.

CSP technology is still relatively new compared to other renewable energy sources, but it has the potential to play a significant role in the transition to a low-carbon energy system. As technology continues to advance and costs decrease, CSP plants may become more widely adopted as a clean and sustainable source of electricity.
