CRISPRCasguided

CRISPRCasguided refers to a specific application of CRISPR-Cas gene-editing technology. It leverages the CRISPR-Cas system to guide biological processes or to analyze genetic material. Essentially, the CRISPR-Cas machinery, along with a guide RNA (gRNA), is directed to a precise location within a cell's DNA or RNA. This targeting capability is what makes it "guided."

In its most common form, CRISPR-Cas9 uses a guide RNA molecule to direct the Cas9 enzyme to a specific DNA sequence. Once at the target site, Cas9 can act as molecular scissors, making a cut in the DNA. This cut can then be repaired by the cell's natural mechanisms, leading to gene inactivation, or scientists can introduce new DNA sequences at the break site to insert or modify genes.

Beyond gene editing, CRISPRCasguided systems are also employed in gene regulation. Modified Cas9 enzymes, which are catalytically inactive but still capable of binding to DNA, can be guided to specific genes to either activate or repress their expression without altering the underlying DNA sequence. This allows for precise control over gene activity for research purposes. Furthermore, CRISPRCasguided techniques are being developed for diagnostic applications, enabling the detection of specific genetic sequences associated with diseases.
