COkibocsátásának refers to the emission of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, and highly toxic gas produced by the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing materials. This incomplete combustion occurs when there is insufficient oxygen available to convert carbon completely into carbon dioxide (CO2).

Major sources of CO emissions include vehicle exhaust, industrial processes, and the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. Natural sources like wildfires and volcanic activity also contribute, though generally to a lesser extent than human-caused emissions.

In the atmosphere, carbon monoxide has a relatively short lifespan, typically a few months, before it is oxidized to carbon dioxide or removed by other chemical processes. However, its presence in the lower atmosphere, particularly in urban areas, is a significant air quality concern. High concentrations of CO can be harmful to human health, interfering with the blood's ability to carry oxygen and potentially leading to respiratory problems and even death at very high levels. It also plays a role in atmospheric chemistry, influencing the formation of other pollutants like ozone.

Mitigation efforts focus on improving combustion efficiency in vehicles and industrial facilities, promoting the use of cleaner fuels, and reducing the overall reliance on fossil fuels. Monitoring CO levels is crucial for public health and environmental protection.
