CO2absorbing

CO2absorbing is a term used to describe substances or processes that remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere or other environments. This removal of CO2 is often referred to as carbon sequestration or carbon capture. The primary natural process of CO2absorbing is photosynthesis, carried out by plants, algae, and cyanobacteria. These organisms utilize sunlight, water, and CO2 to produce energy and oxygen, effectively storing the carbon in their biomass.

Beyond natural processes, various technologies and materials are being developed for CO2absorbing. These include direct air capture (DAC) systems that chemically or physically extract CO2 directly from ambient air. Industrial facilities often employ carbon capture technologies to trap CO2 emissions at their source before they are released into the atmosphere. Certain types of minerals, such as olivine and serpentine, can also react with CO2 through a process called mineral carbonation, forming stable carbonate minerals. Additionally, engineered solutions like bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) combine biomass energy production with CO2 capture. The motivation behind CO2absorbing efforts is largely driven by the need to mitigate climate change by reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
