CCl6
CCl6, also known as carbon hexachloride, is a hypothetical chemical compound with the formula CCl6. Despite its seemingly straightforward representation, this molecule has never been experimentally observed or synthesized. Theoretical studies suggest that such a molecule would be highly unstable due to significant steric strain and electron repulsion between the six chlorine atoms around a central carbon atom. The carbon atom would likely be in an unusually high oxidation state, and the C-Cl bonds would be highly strained and polarized.
The concept of CCl6 arises from extrapolating from known carbon chlorides, such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl4).
