Bølgekarakteristikken describes the fundamental properties of any wave. These properties are crucial for understanding wave behavior and are applicable across various fields, from physics and engineering to acoustics and optics. The primary characteristics include wavelength, amplitude, frequency, and wave speed.

Wavelength, often denoted by the Greek letter lambda (λ), is the spatial period of the wave, meaning the distance over which the wave's shape repeats. It is typically measured in meters. Amplitude, represented by A, is the maximum displacement or extent of oscillation on either side of the equilibrium position. A larger amplitude indicates a more intense wave.

Frequency, denoted by f, is the number of complete cycles or oscillations that occur per unit of time, usually measured in Hertz (Hz), which is equivalent to cycles per second. The inverse of frequency is the period (T), the time it takes for one complete wave cycle to pass a given point.

Wave speed (v) is the speed at which a wave propagates through a medium. It is determined by the properties of the medium itself. For many types of waves, wave speed is related to wavelength and frequency by the equation v = λf. Understanding these characteristics allows for the prediction and manipulation of wave phenomena.
