Bymovirus

Bymovirus is a genus of viruses in the order Tymovirales and the family Alphaflexiviridae. These viruses infect plants and are known for their rod-shaped virions. The genetic material of bymoviruses consists of a single-stranded positive-sense RNA molecule. They are transmitted efficiently by fungal vectors, specifically species of Polymyxa, which are obligate parasites of plants. This type of transmission is known as Vậy virus transmission.

Bymoviruses are characterized by their bipartite genome, meaning their genetic information is divided into two separate RNA molecules. These RNA molecules encode different viral proteins, including those involved in replication and structural components of the virion. Bymoviruses are responsible for causing a range of economically significant diseases in crops, most notably barley stripe mosaic disease in barley. Other hosts can include wheat and maize. Symptoms typically involve mottling, streaking, or mosaic patterns on the leaves, and can lead to reduced yield and quality of the affected plants.
