Byggemåde

Byggemåde denotes the construction method or approach used to erect a building or structure. It encompasses the technical procedures, the choice of materials, and the sequence of operations from start to finish.

The concept covers the structural system (for example load-bearing walls, framed structures, or a combination), the building envelope, and the disciplines involved (concrete, timber, masonry, steel, plumbing, and electrical work), as well as the temporary works required during construction such as formwork and scaffolding.

Common byggemåde are classified by how the building is formed: in-situ construction vs prefabrication, traditional masonry, timber frame, or steel frame, and hybrid or modular approaches that combine elements. The use of prefabricated components often affects speed, quality control, waste, and site disruption.

The choice is influenced by structural requirements, architectural goals, climate and soil conditions, site constraints, cost and schedule, labor availability and expertise, safety considerations, and sustainability targets. National and local codes, standards, and procurement rules also constrain and guide method selection.

In planning and design phases, the byggemåde is defined and documented in construction drawings and specifications. It shapes logistics, sequencing, quality assurance, and life-cycle performance, and is increasingly supported by digital tools such as BIM to coordinate multidisciplinary work.
