Bussipilet

Bussipilet is the Estonian term for a ticket that permits bus travel. A bussipilet may be issued as a paper ticket or as a digital ticket stored on a mobile device. Tickets are usually valid for a defined route, zone, or time period and may cover a single ride or multiple rides within a set duration.

Common formats include paper tickets, electronic tickets, and mobile tickets with QR codes or barcodes. Validation is typically required on boarding or at in-vehicle validators, and inspectors may check tickets during the journey.

Purchasing options vary by operator and country. Tickets can be bought at bus or train stations, vending machines, online, or via mobile apps; some systems allow boarding with on-board purchase. Many networks also offer day passes, period passes (weekly or monthly), and multi-ride tickets.

Discounts are commonly available for children, students, seniors, and people with reduced mobility, subject to eligibility and proof of status. Zone-based pricing and distance-based fares are used in many regions.

In Estonia and other countries, digital ticketing has grown, with many operators offering contactless or app-based tickets. Digital tickets can usually be stored on a device and shown for inspection, while some systems require an active internet connection to validate.
