Busconcurrentie

Busconcurrentie refers to a situation in computer systems where multiple devices or processes attempt to access and use a shared communication pathway, known as a bus, simultaneously. The bus acts as a central conduit for data transfer between various components like the CPU, memory, and peripherals. When more than one entity needs to transmit data over the bus at the same time, a conflict arises.

To manage busconcurrentie, systems employ arbitration mechanisms. Bus arbitration determines which device gets control of the bus at any given moment. Common arbitration techniques include daisy chaining, where a priority signal is passed sequentially among devices, and centralized or distributed polling, where a dedicated arbiter or a network of devices manages access requests. Without effective arbitration, data collisions can occur, leading to corrupted data, system slowdowns, or even crashes. The goal of bus arbitration is to ensure orderly and efficient access to the bus, maximizing system performance and reliability. The complexity of arbitration increases with the number of devices competing for bus access.
