Bronweerstand

Bronweerstand, often translated as source resistance or internal resistance, refers to the resistance within a component or device that generates or supplies electrical energy. This resistance is inherent and present in various sources such as batteries, generators, solar cells, and even power supplies. When current flows from such a source, a voltage drop occurs across this internal resistance. This voltage drop is directly proportional to the current and the value of the bronweerstand. Consequently, the terminal voltage delivered by the source to an external load is always less than the electromotive force (EMF) of the source, with the difference being the voltage drop across the bronweerstand.

The presence of bronweerstand has several practical implications. It leads to a reduction in the power delivered to the load, especially at higher currents, as energy is dissipated as heat within the source itself. This heat generation can affect the performance and lifespan of the source. Furthermore, bronweerstand is a factor in determining the maximum current a source can deliver. In some applications, like voltage regulators, minimizing bronweerstand is crucial for maintaining a stable output voltage. Conversely, in certain sensing applications, a controlled bronweerstand might be deliberately designed into the device. Measuring bronweerstand typically involves applying a known load and measuring the resulting voltage drop.
