Brinecut

Brinecut is a coastal town and port on the southern shore of the Brine Sea in the fictional country of Lethara. It serves as a local center for salt production and maritime activity, anchored by a historic harbor and a small industrial quarter.

The name Brinecut is believed to derive from Old English brine meaning saltwater and cut, referring to a tidal channel or cut in the shoreline used for salt ponds.

Recorded from the 12th century, salt harvesting and fishing formed the basis of Brinecut’s economy. In the 17th to 19th centuries it grew as a transit point for coastal trade and developed salt works and shipbuilding. The 20th century brought diversification toward fisheries, tourism, and light manufacturing.

The town sits on a low-lying peninsula with salt ponds and mudflats. It experiences a temperate maritime climate with cool summers, mild winters, and frequent fog.

Today, salt production remains a key activity, alongside seafood processing and tourism. The Brinecut Maritime Museum documents local seafaring and salt-making history. The annual Brine Festival celebrates the region’s heritage with markets, boat races, and music.

Notable sites include Brinecut Saltworks, Lindharp Lighthouse, and the old Docks district.
