In contrast, source routing requires devices to specify the path packets should take through the network, which is less common in modern networks. Redundant bridging configurations, such as Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), are implemented to prevent network loops by disabling redundant paths while ensuring connectivity if a primary path fails.
