Brandstoftypes, a lesser-known term within the broader context of Scandinavian cultural heritage, refers to several distinct types of freehold or commonage properties associated with mark or brand distinctive symbols used primarily in early Denmark. These ancient practices were an essential component of landholding systems that utilized burning or other recognizable features to differentiate adjacent tracts of land. This distinction served as a means of preventing disputes and facilitating identification within shared grazing areas for cattle.

Several classes of brandstoftypes were recognized and established through legislation and court decisions in pre-modern Denmark. These classifications often took the form of officially recognized'mark' characteristics that had been traditionally used by various landowning families or groups. Usage of these then-legitimized designations marked the shift of earlier framing and dividing grazing lands from a somewhat unstructured communal practice to a system more closely adhered to traditional rights and space divisions.
