Boryspil

Boryspil is a city in Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine. Located in the eastern part of the oblast, it lies about 29 kilometers southeast of Kyiv and serves as the administrative center of Boryspil Raion. The city sits within the Kyiv metropolitan area and is closely integrated with the capital through road, rail, and air links.

As of recent estimates, Boryspil has a population in the tens of thousands, around 60,000 residents.

The area has medieval origins and was part of Kyivan Rus in its early history. Over the centuries, it was incorporated into the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian Empire, and the Ukrainian SSR. In the Soviet period, Boryspil expanded as a local administrative center and industrial town, and it has remained part of independent Ukraine since 1991.

The economy is anchored by Boryspil International Airport (KBP), located near the city and serving Kyiv and the region. The airport is a major employer and a hub for passenger and cargo traffic, contributing to local services and logistics. In addition to aviation, the city hosts manufacturing, retail, and agricultural processing, supported by its strategic location near Kyiv and the airport. Transport infrastructure includes the M03 highway and rail connections to Kyiv and other cities.

Boryspil contains educational institutions, cultural facilities, and parks that serve residents. As a growing urban center, it combines residential neighborhoods with commercial and industrial areas, while preserving historic sites and local traditions.
