Bolognaeljárásnak is a Hungarian term that translates to "Bologna procedure" or "Bologna process." It refers to the series of reforms implemented across Europe to standardize higher education systems. The primary goal is to create a more comparable, compatible, and competitive European higher education area. This initiative began in 1999 with the Bologna Declaration, signed by ministers of education from 29 European countries.

Key aspects of the Bologna process include the establishment of a three-cycle degree system: Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate. It also emphasizes the development of a common credit system, known as the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), to facilitate student mobility and recognition of qualifications. The process also promotes quality assurance, inter-university cooperation, and the inclusion of a Diploma Supplement to provide clear and consistent information about degrees. While not a legally binding treaty, the Bologna process has significantly reshaped European higher education, fostering greater collaboration and making degrees more transferable across national borders. Over time, more countries have joined the process, expanding its reach and impact on global higher education.
