Blödarsjukdom, also known as hemolytic anemia, is a group of disorders characterized by the premature destruction of red blood cells. This process leads to an increased rate of red blood cell production by the bone marrow, which can result in the enlargement of the spleen and liver. The most common cause of hemolytic anemia is genetic defects in red blood cells, such as sickle cell anemia and thalassemia. Other causes include autoimmune disorders, infections, and certain medications.

Genetic counseling may be recommended for individuals with a family history of hemolytic anemia. Regular check-ups and monitoring of blood counts can help detect and manage hemolytic anemia early.
