Bittisyvyyksiä refers to the number of bits used to represent each color channel in a digital image. It is a crucial factor in determining the color depth and overall fidelity of an image. Common bittisyvyyksiä include 8-bit, 10-bit, 12-bit, and 16-bit per channel.

An 8-bit per channel image, often referred to as "true color," can display approximately 16.7 million colors (2^8 = 256 shades for each of the red, green, and blue channels). This is sufficient for most general-purpose display and printing needs.

Higher bittisyvyyksiä, such as 10-bit, 12-bit, or 16-bit, offer a significantly greater range of colors and finer gradations between shades.
