Birgðamati is an Icelandic term that translates to inventory valuation or stock valuation. It refers to the accounting process of assigning a monetary value to the inventory held by a business at a specific point in time. This valuation is crucial for accurate financial reporting, as inventory represents a significant asset for many companies.

The method chosen for birgðamati can have a substantial impact on a company's reported profit and the value of its assets. Common inventory valuation methods include First-In, First-Out (FIFO), Last-In, First-Out (LIFO), and Weighted-Average Cost.
