Bereikzoekingen, also known as range searches or interval queries, are a fundamental concept in computer science and data management. They involve finding all data points or objects within a specified range or interval. This type of query is common in various applications, including databases, geographic information systems (GIS), and search engines.

The core idea of a bereikzoeking is to define a set of conditions that data must satisfy based on its attribute values. For instance, a bereikzoeking in a database might retrieve all records where the "age" attribute falls between 20 and 30, or where a "timestamp" is after a specific date. In GIS, it could be used to find all points of interest within a certain geographical bounding box.

Efficiently performing bereikzoekingen often relies on specialized data structures. For one-dimensional data, sorted arrays or balanced binary search trees can be used. For multi-dimensional data, structures like k-d trees or R-trees are employed. These structures allow for the pruning of search space, significantly reducing the number of comparisons needed to find the relevant data, thus improving query performance.
