Benin bronzes are a group of metal plaques, sculptures, and reliefs created by the Edo-speaking people of the Benin Empire in what is today southern Nigeria. Produced mainly in brass or bronze through the lost-wax casting technique, they adorned the courtyards and walls of the Benin City royal palace and other religious and ceremonial sites.
