Belgi

Belgi is a term sometimes used to refer to the inhabitants and cultural heritage of Belgium. The standard English demonym is Belgians; Belgi appears mainly in historical or linguistic discussions, tracing the name to the Latin Belgae, a group of Gaulish tribes that lived in northern Gaul and the area of present-day Belgium during the Roman era.

Geography and politics: Belgium is a Western European country bordered by the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, France, and the North Sea. Its capital and largest city is Brussels. The country consists of three regions—Flanders in the north, Wallonia in the south, and the Brussels-Capital Region—and three official language communities: the Flemish Community (Dutch-speaking), the French Community, and the German-speaking Community.

History and society: The Belgae referred to by Caesar were a loose coalition of tribes in the region. Modern Belgium gained independence in 1830 as a constitutional monarchy.
