Belastingroutes

Belastingroutes is a Dutch term that can refer to several related notions in public finance and administration. In its broad sense, belastingroutes denote the paths through which tax revenues flow from taxpayers and tax bases to government budgets, and the channels by which tax policies—rates, bases, deductions, exemptions—translate into revenue and distributional outcomes. The concept is used to analyze how taxes affect different regions, sectors, or population groups, and how changes in policy alter the geographic or social distribution of the tax burden.

In policy analysis and tax administration, belastingroutes are mapped to visualize revenue flows and identify gaps, inefficiencies, or opportunities for simplification. The methodology often combines tax data with geographic information systems, microsimulation, and structural models to estimate who bears which burden under different scenarios. In a more operational sense, the term can also describe the sequence of steps and jurisdictions involved in collecting duties and value-added taxes on goods that cross borders or move through multi-jurisdictional supply chains.
