They are often used for stormwater management and insulation. Intensive green roofs are deeper, heavier, and can support a wider variety of plants, including shrubs and even small trees. They function more like conventional gardens and require more maintenance.

The benefits of green roofs are numerous. They help manage stormwater runoff by absorbing and filtering rainwater, reducing the burden on urban drainage systems and improving water quality. They also provide significant thermal insulation, lowering building energy consumption for heating and cooling. Green roofs contribute to urban biodiversity by creating habitats for insects and birds. Installation involves careful planning and construction to ensure structural integrity and proper drainage.
