Beginquotation

Beginquotation is a term used to indicate the start of a block quotation in some markup and typesetting systems. It is not a universal programming keyword but appears in documentation as the function or directive that begins a quoted passage.

In LaTeX, the conventional syntax to begin a block quotation is \begin{quotation} ... \end{quotation}. This environment is designed for longer quotations and typically applies indentation on both left and right margins, setting off the quoted material from the surrounding text. A related, shorter form is the quote environment, \begin{quote} ... \end{quote}, which formats a shorter quoted passage.

In HTML, quotes are marked with the blockquote element rather than a begin-quotation directive. The corresponding opening tag is <blockquote> and the closing tag is </blockquote>. Authors may use the cite attribute to reference the source of the quotation.

Outside TeX/HTML, the phrase "begin quotation" may appear in documentation as a descriptive instruction to start a quotation block in various markup languages, but there is no single universal "beginquotation" keyword.
