Problems with the basal membrane can also affect the skin, leading to blistering disorders like epidermolysis bullosa, where the layers of the skin are unable to adhere properly due to defects in the basal membrane. Neurological conditions can also involve basal membrane abnormalities, impacting nerve cell function and support.
