Barokkikaudella
Barokkikaudella refers to the Baroque period in art, music, and architecture. This era, spanning roughly from the early 17th century to the mid-18th century, emerged in Europe and spread globally. It was characterized by a distinctive style that emphasized grandeur, drama, exuberance, and a sense of motion. In visual arts, Baroque artists like Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Rubens employed dramatic lighting (chiaroscuro), intense emotions, and dynamic compositions. Architecture during this period saw the construction of opulent palaces and churches, featuring elaborate ornamentation, grand staircases, and curved forms, exemplified by structures like Versailles and St. Peter's Basilica. Musically, the Baroque period saw the development of opera, oratorio, and concerto, with composers such as Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi creating complex and ornate pieces. The overall aim of Baroque art was often to evoke strong emotional responses and convey power, often in service of religious or monarchical institutions. The period represented a shift from the more restrained Renaissance style towards a more theatrical and emotionally charged aesthetic.
