Barokki

Barokki, also known as Baroque, is a style of art, architecture, and music that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century to the mid-18th century. It originated in Rome and quickly spread throughout Europe and its colonies. The Baroque style is characterized by its drama, opulence, and grandeur, often evoking intense emotions in the viewer or listener.

In painting and sculpture, Baroque artists used strong contrasts of light and shadow (chiaroscuro), dynamic compositions, and a sense of movement and theatricality. Famous examples include the works of Caravaggio, Bernini, and Rubens. Architecture during the Baroque period featured elaborate ornamentation, curved forms, and large-scale constructions, often designed to impress and awe. St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and the Palace of Versailles in France are prime examples of Baroque architecture.

In music, the Baroque era saw the development of new forms like the opera, concerto, and sonata. Composers like Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi are synonymous with this period, known for their complex harmonies, rich textures, and emotional depth. The Baroque style sought to engage the senses and stir the soul, reflecting a complex and dynamic worldview. Its influence can be seen in subsequent artistic movements, though it eventually gave way to the Rococo and Neoclassical styles.
